--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The day had started off horribly. For starters, Cheshire wasn’t feeling well, so she had to leave him with the elderly couple down below her apartment. Which wasn’t too bad, but she was terribly worried about her poor baby. That cat needed lots of loving when he was sick. Secondly, when she got to work, those damned pencil pushers in the office didn’t have ANYTHING ready for her. How was she suppose to work without the needed paperwork? Lunch break hadn’t even hit and they were already lazy!
Not to mention, her boss just HAD to call her in and gripe about the clothes she was wearing. It’s not like she had an interview today, so what was the problem? Red and black was very trendy! But Alice had to admit, she wouldn’t trade the job in for anything. She really loved her work, she was serious about it -she’d never post lies in the paper. She had a friend she adored working in the same section as her.
Over-all, her work life was good, if not a little hectic. Alice was…. To put it bluntly, a bit of a dominatrix when it came to her work. She wasn’t overly cruel to them, but it would be a lie to say she didn’t have the staff meant to help her and Daphne running around like headless chickens. It wasn’t even noon yet, and still she wasn’t going to cut them any slack.
She didn’t give herself any slack either, though. Mistakes, were not an option. Of course, her idea of a mistake and the boss’s were completely different. Not that it mattered, she did her job well, so he couldn’t really find a big enough reason to fire her. Her personality could grate on his nerves, but at least she didn’t post trash like Rita Skeeter and still managed to make it interesting enough to read. --Okay, so it was Alice that thought Rita was a horrible journalist, but still.
It was half-past eleven in the morning, and the office workers were all inching out to lunch -despite Alice’s disgruntled stares as they left. The woman scooted her paper out of the way, before pulling her bottled mineral water from her desk, into her hands. She uncapped it and took a drink. --contained drinks like these were the only thing she’d drink without having some one taste test it first. For food, the only time she’d eat it without taste-testing is if it was home-made by some one she trusted to cook good food.
That was a big reason Alice never cared for lunch breaks. Not many people are exactly thrilled at being used as taste-testers. The woman gave out an exasperated sigh before mumbling to herself, “Daphne’s probably going on her lunch break too, darned woman. Leaving me alone with that ill-tempered boss.” [/blockquote] --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------CREDITS - this template was created by donni, do not steal. (I'm Not A Princess)(This ain't a fairytale) Daphne was having an amazing day, well compared to her co-worker’s day it was amazing. If she wasn’t comparing it then she would have been having a long and tiring day which she just wanted to end. It was the days that they didn’t have interviews to do that bored Daphne to death. Her things weren’t even ready for her, not like it was a huge big deal. She wasn’t going to make this big fuss out of it but it did get on her nerves how people apparently had things better to do than their very own job. It was quite ridiculous actually.
Another thing ridiculous was their boss. Like how he called in Alice that day about her outfit the right after told Daphne she had to wear longer dresses. It wasn’t like people could look up her arse! Not unless they bent over backwards to try and get a view. And Daphne also had so many other dresses that were much shorter. But she did get off the hook easier because of how she looked decently professional instead of her co-worker, but Alice looked trendy! Point was that they didn’t have to make themselves look all serious since they were technically not interviewing anyone. They would be just hanging around the building all day doing paperwork.
She started to work once everything got set up in her station. She did manage to focus on it without getting distracted by the fellow people talking and laughing obnoxiously instead of doing their work. She closed her eyes frustrated when she heard someone mention heading to lunch. She instantly opened her eyes and smiled perking up. Lunch was the best part of the work day. It didn’t involve any focus or intense thinking. It was a time to relax with friends, eat, talk, and maybe even rant about work if it was someone she trusted well enough. Someone who she knew wouldn’t stab her in the back because they were jealous of her position. One girl who she trusted most was Alice.
Speaking of which she had a feeling Alice wasn’t heading to lunch. That girl was a work-a-holic. Not that it was a bad thing, because even Daphne loved work. It was just that Alice pushed herself too hard and never knew when enough was enough. Well in Daphne’s eyes she did. It was her responsibility to make sure the girl actually had some fun with her life and didn’t take things to seriously all the time. That she would actually give herself a break to clear her mind and help her relax and unstress herself. Especially with everything that had happened today the girl needed someone to talk to.
Daphne started to walk quietly to Alice’s station and heard the girl mumble to herself. ]“Yes Alice, because I would totally throw you under the bus like that.” She said sarcastically with a small smirk. She used on muggle saying she once heard, she hoped Alice wouldn’t question it because she would rather not have to explain it. Daphne walked to the girl as she started to grab Alice’s stuff. “Come on, I am going to take you on a lunch break.” She said in sort of a demanding way.“Unless you would rather stay here and let your stomach acids engulf you. Your choice.” She said with a smirk. That was one thing she learned, the truth of starvation. She wouldn’t go into much details about it, that was as far as she was willing to go.

The sterile smell that accompanied every hospital clung to Astoria, even after she discarded her lime green healer’s robes and deposited them in her locker. It was one of the worse parts of working in St. Mungo’s, she supposed. If she had to pick, having the constant smell that you’d just been through a bath of disinfectant liquid, and then went and hung out with sick people, which is exactly what most of her job consisted of. Since she was still in training, she spent her day following around the head healer of the Spell Damage department, and ended up doing most of their dirty work, and not learning much at all. While she understood completely that she couldn’t perform all the tasks a certified healer was able to, she hardly found it necessary that she spend an hour feeding a little girl who had been the victim of her little brother’s uncontrolled magic. That wasn’t what her job entailed, and as much as she loved children and had adored the little girl’s smiling face and her pink and blonde ringlets, she couldn’t help but think there were better things she could spend her time on; like actually helping with diagnosis. The other healers usually let her do more, but the head of department didn’t seem to like her much. Astoria had been determined to figure out why, but hadn’t come to a conclusion. It couldn’t be that she wasn’t polite or respectful, she noted as she exited the hospital and waved at the welcome witch whom she’d become fairly good friend with, because she was always on her best behaviour, especially with her boss around. Humming a jaunty tune softly so only she could hear, Astoria decided to let it go for the meantime, and not let the day ruin her mood. But mark her words, she would figure out why the head didn’t like her, and work to correct it as quickly as possible. For a quiet girl, Astoria had always had a strong personality. She had always known where her heart was and where her loyalties and beliefs laid, and she wasn’t going to be pushed around because of it. Though she never went shoving her values down others’ throats... except those few times with her father, though he hadn’t listened so she never counted it. She had been a bit ferocious at the time, but given the events of the past, she felt no need to force equality and tolerance on anyone these days. It was rare that she encountered someone who didn’t believe the same. Well, she did find herself having to be forceful with two certain workaholics every once in a while, but it was just because she was concerned with their well-being. Unlike with most jobs, as a healer, or rather a future one, Astoria was always on alert and paid attention to everyone’s health. Exactly why she found herself in the Daily Prophet offices, searching for her sister and possibly her friend, depending on if she was around. Once she located both of them, she watched their interaction before quirking her eyebrow and speaking up in her soft voice, while looking down at her watch. “And you had better come along both of you, before I take the best table and not allow either of you to sit with me,” she said with a smirk on her thick lips, knowing she’d never do such a thing and they’d probably see through her empty threats, before going up and kissing her sister on both cheeks, à la française. for alice and daphne | 595 words | wearing [click] | this is kind of rambly about her frustrations, but meh~

Alice was just about to go back to work when she heard the woman respond to her self-dialogue. She turned a pointed grin up at Daphne. Alice understood the phrase perfectly well -she lived on the muggle side of the tracks. More often than not, it was simpler to grocery shop there too, rather than apparating from one side of the tracks to the other. Her expression changed to a pretty little smile meant just for the other woman, “Awww, Daphne….”
Well aware that some of the workers were staring at them worriedly like they were afraid they’d get caught in a bear-trap. Alice was about to turn up the dramatics -until Daphne mentioned the stomach. Her brother, despite being a Hogwarts student himself, had chosen the life of a muggle school Science Teacher, so she had a fairly good understanding of that.
Her nose wrinkled up in disdain, “Daph, that’s a lovely mental image, if I had any appetite before, you might have just killed it.”
The woman grinned though, rolling her eyes. Her gaze turned to her things that were now in Daphne’s possession, “Either way, I highly doubt you plan to give me the choice of if I want to go or not. Do you?”
Alice’s attention turned to the third voice -it was Astoria. The woman’s grin didn’t fade any. It just took a more mischievous and playful grin, “Oh my! Daphne, Astoria would do such a thing?! I think my heart just broke!”
The blonde haired woman snickered a bit as she watched the affectionate scene. If she tried doing that to Jamie, he’d get all flustered and run away. Alice let out a dramatic sigh, “No greeting for me? I guess I’ll just have to trudge on.”
The woman began to wonder where these siblings were going to drag her too. She also started staring at Daphne wondering if she was going to get her things back, at least her purse. She kinda needed that if she was going to go out for lunch. Well, for starters, the woman needed to put the important files away in her drawers. So, she picked the papers up from her desk and bent down to the drawer, which she pulled open. Uniformly putting the papers in. She shoved the drawer door shut and patted a hand around on her desk, without standing, “Daphne, gimme my wand or charm the drawer for me so no one breaks in.”
It would be an understatement to say Alice would go on a murder spree if anyone stole something from her desk. It was obvious Daphne and the other’s in the department would be on the same page as her, literally and metaphorically speaking, but when both her and Daphne were going out for lunch, there was no reason for some one to touch things from her desk, “Anyways… Where do you have in mind for lunch? Should I be worried that I‘ll get kicked out for muggle-wear?”
She turned a mischievous glance at the two. Even if they wanted to kick her out, they’d be unlikely to succeed, Alice could be rather pushy at times. As much as she hated leaving work behind when there was work to do, Alice had to admit, getting out and being able to talk to people she trusted about work would be a blessing. Daphne was just the person, unlike those little tosspots who were SUPPOSE to be useful, Daphne wouldn’t rat her out. Astoria also was a pretty trustworthy person, so Alice didn’t mind talking in front of her or to her either. (I'm Not A Princess)(This ain't a fairytale) Daphne gave a small laugh at Alice’s response to the image of starvation. She did have a point; it wasn’t the best image to have in your head right before lunch. Even Daph was kind of losing her appetite just thinking about what she just said to the girl. “Hey now, I could’ve very easily went into more detail about it. And it shouldn’t make you lose your appetite. It should make you want to eat to avoid such a situation.” She said as if everyone knew that. She still had that sound of playfulness in attempts to put her co-worker in a better mood, which seemed to be working quite well already.
Daph smirked as Alice commented about not having a choice. “Very well observed Miss Keenan. It is quite true, you have no choice. I will even drag you if I have to.” She said half serious but also amusement sparkled in her eyes as she said so. It was Daphne’s job to make sure Alice didn’t die on the job from overworking herself without the food to supply her with energy she so very much needed at the current moment.
Daphne felt herself get quite surprised hearing Astoria but also smiled, there was never a moment when Daphne hated her sister’s company. When she heard what her sister said she put a hand on her heart with mock hurt. “It is quite heartbreaking when they do such cruelty to their friends and family.” She said with a playful tone. “But then again she is a Greengrass so giving us such pain isn’t much out of an ordinary.” She said teasingly with a small smile. The Greengrass’s used to be thought of as a pureblood family, until little miss Astoria rebelled against the ideas giving Daph the bravery to do so as well. But she still considered her and her sister from a cruel family. Honestly Daphne could be colder than ice when she wanted to be. And that was when people stayed away from her.
Daphne smiled as Astoria came to greet her the French style with a kiss on each cheek. The French ways of doing things was always more lovely than the English way. Daphne had considered moving to France once but decided to stay in England so she could be close to her family. But she would certainly love to visit France, maybe even bring Astoria and Alice with her if they were lucky enough to come. She smiled over at Alice “Darling, don’t you know that sisters always come first?” she asked with a smile.
Daphne stood and crossed her arms as she watched the woman pack up everything. She couldn’t hide a winning smile. Thank Merlin Astoria came for back up otherwise Daphne would have to be dragging Alice to her break all by herself. And that would be quite a lot of work. Daphne passed the girl her wand but still kept the other possessions just as a precaution to make sure that she wouldn’t try to get out of this little mysterious lunch break at a place where even Daphne was unaware of the location.
Daphne grabbed her own little coat when Alice asked where they were heading. She stopped in her steps and turned to look at Alice. “That is a good question. I have no idea considering my sister being here is quite a surprise for me also.” She explained to her and looked at Astoria. “Where are we going love?” she asked her as she grabbed her purse and slung it over her shoulder and handed Alice her stuff back.

Astoria shook her head lightly as she caught the end of her sister’s explanation of starvation. It seemed to bother both of the girls much more than it did her. To Astoria, it was just the reality of nature, and nothing else. She’d always been one with an iron-clad stomach, and very few things actually made her squeamish or ill to her stomach. Which was good, considering she worked in a hospital, and there were some nasty spells she’d come across. Splinching was a common thing people came in with, and seeing their limbs torn apart and bloody didn’t bother Astoria; it only made her want to help them more. It was amusing to her to listen to their conversation as she approached. The two of them amused her to no end, and she always felt comfortable around the two blondes. Enough so that she could let down her walls a bit and just be herself. It was usually quite difficult for her, but this was her sister and someone her sister obviously trusted. And although Astoria didn’t necessarily like her sister’s choice in friends when they’d been back in school, she trusted her judgement, and if Daphne trusted Alice, than she could too. She nearly laughed as both blondes feigned hurt at her statement, even if they knew she’d never do that too them. Obviously, Astoria would never do that to anyone, but if threats got them moving, than by all means she’d used them. And she was hungry. “Yes well, you remember the old Greengrass motto too then,” she said then smirked a little. Their family was quite peculiar. The Greengrasses came from a long line of well... rather firm people who didn’t like change and punished those who did. That, however, had never scared Astoria, as few things did, and she hadn’t paused to think about her rebellion and how her family would take it. Her grandparents still didn’t speak to her, and her mother detested the sight of her, believing that she was the one who had tainted her sister’s mind and ruined her golden girl. “Whatever means to achieve your ends.” It was true though. Also a motto of slytherin, the family’s trademark house, it seemed that the will to attain their goals outweighed most other things, especially in Astoria, who could be a downright bitch when someone was in her way. Their family had also never been very affectionate, so when she and Daphne grew closer, Astoria opted to change that. Getting both of them used to such things may have taken a little time, but Tori was glad she could now hug or kiss her sister without thinking about it, or having it feel weird. “Yes, sorry Alice, but you know, the sister thing,” she gave a small laugh and went to give Alice a half-hug, the most she’d sacrifice with someone she wasn’t completely comfortable around and didn’t know all that much about. It was quite the feat for her though, to willingly engage in physical contact; Astoria had never been much of a touchy-feely person, especially with her upbringing. She’d been raised to avoid it, believing affection was a sign of weakness, though she had broken the boundaries with her sister, as she had done with many things attributed to the Greengrass name. And it hugging Alice would be out of the family norm, by all means she’d do it willingly. “Oh! Uhmm...” Astoria trailed off at both of their inquiries as to where she’d planned for them to go for lunch. She had indeed picked a place, but couldn’t for the life of her remember the name of it. “I wrote it.. I wrote it down...” she said softly, a little spacily as she went through her purse, trying to remember where she’d written it. Her lips pouted when she couldn’t find it, and brought her hand up to rub her nose under her glasses, trying to think. That was when she noticed the little ink marks on the inside of her forearm, and pushed back the sleeve a little of her short blazer, and read the markings outloud. “’That place where we went last time that had the delicious French onion soup’... I was hoping either of you would remember the name... or the location of the restaurant...” she trailed off sheepily, a little embarrassed that her short-term memory was, in one word, rubbish. for alice and daphne | 735 words | wearing [click] | a little long-winded, sorry. and I apologize for spacey Astoria :P

Alice was quick to lock down the drawer when Daphne handed her the wand. Whereas Alice was not dependent on magic, it would be the biggest lie to say she wasn’t in love with her wand. After finding out that a wand chooses it’s master, the fact that this wand had chosen her was like the biggest compliment a piece of wood could give. It might have seemed a little odd, but Loyalty was a big thing for Alice. The fact that it so readily put it’s trust in the person she was -not the perfect little doll her father wanted her to be- was amazing to Alice when she was younger.
She was always, admittedly, a little miffed when she found out that if you got disarmed your wand’s loyalty would go elsewhere. But as she got older, she began to understand that was perfectly fair. Such unyielding loyalty? Of course there would be a catch, you couldn’t have such loyalty without some hard work of your own. It wasn’t natural. Because of such odd beliefs, Daphne and Connie pretty much had Alice’s maximum loyalty. Astoria was pretty high on the chain herself, even if she weren’t Daphne’s sister, she had a trustworthy personality in Alice’s opinion.
Alice was sure the charm would hold against most simple spells like Alohomora. So she stood up in time to stick her tongue out at the two and receive Astoria’s half-hug. Which didn’t bug Alice any. She just returned it with a hug and planting a kiss -unwelcomed or not, on the girl’s face. Despite her parents and brother’s dislike for too much contact, Alice was very much a person with an affinity for affection and contact with another living being.
Crawling into other people’s beds and smothering Chess with affection were two of the… unwanted side affects of her nature. She, herself, had no problem with it, but it seemed other people were rather un-fond of it. For some peculiar reason or another, Alice had no idea what was so unlikable about it. It truly confused her. Humans, magical or non-magical were, by nature, social creatures.
Alice accepted her things back from Daphne as she stared at Astoria with amusement. Already forgotten where they were going, huh? When the woman finally gave an ‘answer,’ Alice’s face lit up a little. Not because she remembered the name of the restaurant, but because she heard the word French. The French were phenomenal at making sweets and baking treats.
No one could compare to Swiss and Belgian chocolates though. The Swiss were craftful, the Belgian’s were creative -not to mention they, like the Norwegians were skilled with waffles. Waffles covered in chocolate was absolutely amazing~ But Alice especially loved the Belgian’s little shot glass made purely out of chocolate. It was a wedding type thing. Thanks to Astoria saying the word French and sending Alice’s mind wandering, the woman’s stomach ended up growling for some much needed food.
Alice gave a quirky grin, she doubted the two would understand this joke considering Alice in Wonderland -whereas very magical was more of a muggle thing. They had even made a cartoon movie about the book, “Curiouser and curiouser, don’t you think? I have a vague idea about where you‘re talking about. What about you, Daph? Remember the name? I‘m not apparating anywhere without being sure of where there is. It‘s a policy, you know.
