[/size]The clock in the living room chimed seven times to announce that the new hour of the evening had begun. The sound reverberated across the house making the silence much louder in it's wake. In the kitchen the stove top went cold, the pots cleaning to the last bit a warmth left inside them forming condensation on their lids. Tonight's dinner would be served up later whenever the boys got home. Hermione sat at the long dinning table with papers scattered all along the mahogany wood surface. A coffee cup sat just to her right, empty, as it formed a ring on the table that she would remove later. She sighed lightly as she pushed a long strand of hair that seemed to be one of many that escaped the pins that held them in place earlier that day. A small sound of ruffling papers was all that could be heard until a loud whistle broke the silence.
Placing her papers back into their assigned stack on the table she pushed back her chair. The low squeak of the chair moving couldn't be heard of the persistent whistle coming from the tea kettle that was hanging over the fire. Picking up her cup, Hermione headed over to the fire place and grabbed the cloth that sat upon the mantle. Withdrawing the tea kettle she quietly filled her cup up with the warm liquid. Replacing the kettle back into the flames that were slowly dwindling down she quickly crossed the floor again to regain her position at the table. The cup of tea was placed back in it's ring marked spot as she returned her gaze to another stack of papers.
Hermione's work had traveled home with her today. An inspection was taking place in a few days in her department at the ministry and Hermione wouldn't be able to sleep right if she didn't triple check to make sure everything was in order. Losing her job or even getting a warning was not an option, not if her goal was to become head of her department in a short amount of time. Files needed to be organized and Hermione was doing just that. The papers were organized by date, then breed, and then overall problem. She felt that it couldn't get anymore orderly than that but seeing as Ron and Harry hadn't returned home yet she wouldn't have anyone to distract her from the work that was so obviously already completed. The boys had been staying out late recently due to their work so she only assumed they were on a trail of a serious witch or wizard. She worried for them and the wait every night to see each of them walk through that door unharmed was always stressful.
Steam rose from the freshly made cup of tea which was now in between Hermione's hands as she sat back in her chair. What was she to do now that she had completed all that she could for today. The house was spotless, a chore she kept up with daily, dinner was cooked, and her filing was done. Hermione stifled a yawn wondering if perhaps she should turn in early tonight.
