It irked her a little, even on days that she didn’t have school, and didn’t have a reason to wake up early, her body refused to sleep extra hours. Just one day she would like to sleep in, impossible as it was. The war had ultimately ruined whatever chances she would have of that. During that time, she had slept even less and woken up even earlier, intent on being awake lest anything tumultuous happen while she rested. Honestly, what would sleeping in an extra hour to two do to her? Surely a nap in midday wouldn’t bother anyone! But no, her body refused to work that way. She truly envied people who had the ability to sleep in. Early to bed and early to rise, every single day and night. It was starting to get repetitive, and really grated on her nerves.
Nevertheless, Tori didn’t dwell on the fact long and set about the task of getting herself prepared to face the day. She took her time, not needing to meet her friends in Diagon until after noon, but she had planned on doing some business of her own before. Even though she wasn’t rushed, the whole of getting ready didn’t take long. After doing her business in her bathroom, then washing her face with a warm washcloth and applying the goblin-made lotion her mother insisted she used, and dealing with her morning breath, it took only minutes for Astoria to pull out her clothing and divest herself of her nightgown. By now fully awake, she slipped the dress over her head, after her bra was done up and placed, and rolled the tights up her legs. It was an effortless and somewhat lazy outfit, but she didn’t really care. She knew the moment she came in contact with her friends, they would pick on her about her clothing, until she mentioned the price to shut their little judgmental mouths for the day. Deciding to forgo makeup as she usually did, she grabbed a bag and matching shoes before heading downstairs to grab breakfast.
Humming to herself after eating a bowl of yogurt and fruit, Astoria made her way to the fireplace to floo into Diagon. The scent of the powder tainted her clothes, and the act made her wild, unruly locks tangle up even further. By now, she was sure she looked like a mess and a half. Au natural, she’d call it for today, she decided, stepping out and into the bustle of Diagon. It was well before the time she needed to join up with her shopping group, so she made her way over to a few shops to take care of a few things she’d rather do alone, namely manage her accounts at Gringotts with the family goblin, and purchase a few leisurely items from Flourish & Blotts.
After dealing with her personal matters, Tori still found herself with time to kill. She stood in the middle of the street, people passing around her on either side, some giving her looks, others telling her blatantly to get out of their way. Any other shopping was liable to put her in trouble with her friends, and there wasn’t much window shopping that could be done when the streets were this crowded. Resignedly, Astoria made her way over to where her favourite shop in the Alley stood.
It was no secret that the youngest Greengrass girl enjoyed her sweets more than most, though she hadn’t had a bite of ice cream in quite a while. She had considered Mr Fortescue a rather close acquaintance and found it an insult to his honour to eat anything that wasn’t from his shop. It had been quite a while, and she guessed it was about time she got over her stage of withdrawal and savour a frozen treat again. She waited in line diligently, and ordered whatever sounded fair. She headed outside onto the patio, and put the first bite of frozen cream in her mouth. She made a face, partly because of the chill of the food and out of astonishment of seeing her sister sitting at one of the tables. She made her way over quickly and plopped down on the seat opposite Daphne, not really caring if it was taken or not.
“I thought you were bringing Mother out today?” her soft voice drawled with the promise that her sister had made to her the day before. Their mother really needed to get out of the Manor, and Daphne has said she would take her shopping, though it wouldn't surprise her if her mother had refused.
